Here's what Bob has to say about his part of the book: This is being written for two groups of people. First, my thoughts, some very personal, are shared with returning spouses. Secondly, this is written for all standers as a reminder to continue to stand, especially after the one you love so very much has come home. Regardless of where you are right now, I pray that we may make this journey called marriage restoration together. It's impossible for me to write without God dealing with my life. May it be impossible for you to read and accept that the loving, gentle Holy Spirit will speak to you as well.

The old adage that you can't judge a book by its cover applied to this family. After church, the happy masks came off and the boxing gloves went on. Finally, Charlyne could take no more of the adultery and abuse and filed for divorce. Bob found someone else and started to rebuild his life.

The Steinkamps' 20 other books relate how God touched Charlyne and she began to pray for Bob and for the restoration of their marriage. In 1987 Bob and Charlyne were remarried, to the glory of God.

Looking Back 25 Years is more than a history book. It is an account of how God brought life back to this dead marriage and anointed the Steinkamps over the next 20 years to help hurting and dead marriages around the world, always encouraging them to turn to Jesus Christ for His healing of their family.

The biblical parable of the prodigal son, as told by the Lord Jesus, provides the pattern for prodigal spouses to return home.

Bob Steinkamp, the author of this book, was the prodigal in his marriage. But his wife, Charlyne trusted God to restore their marriage, though at the time it seemed so hopeless and looked impossible. This book is a beautiful account of Robert's eventual return from the far country back home to his wife and family and their new life together.

A NOTE FROM BOB -
This book was not written for you to send unsolicited to a prodigal spouse. The cause of your marriage restoration could be harmed, not helped, by doing so. We prodigals know what we are doing wrong, but we do not know how to escape the trap we are in. The book is intended for you to hand to your prodigal, at the right time, in response to their "No one knows how I feel" or "I could never come home" type of comment. You need to be praying and ask God to have that moment come soon.

In The Prodigal's Pen, Bob has compiled memorable messages to persons standing for the restoration of their marriages, and includes many insightful comments based on his own perspective as a former prodigal as well as Charlyne's thoughts as a stander.

Bob and I have three beautiful children and wore masks in our church and in public. We were hiding all our hurts, our pain, our anger, our fighting and strife that was going on in our home. We were Christians, but we did not know HOW OR WHAT to do to have a healthy marriage. This got worse. Bob and I allowed the enemy (Satan) to come into our home and destroy our marriage.

This book will share from my heart to yours to NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR SPOUSE! I did. I divorced Bob due to unfaithfulness, and with the encouragement of pastors and counselors who only saw the impossible circumstances of our marriage.

Luz and Fabian have remarried each other three times and have five children. Luz was the stander and gave up standing two times and married two other men, but God told her to go home and wait for Fabian. Fabian also had a non-covenant marriage, and has a daughter with that marriage.

Fabian has a burden to share what God has done in his life and he has been transformed completely by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout the 13 years they were divorced Fabian battled with:

•Unfaithfulness

•Pornography

•Alcohol

•Habitual Gambling

•Suicide

Fabian came home one time to find out that his wife had married someone else, but God later told Luz to go home and wait. Fabian also talks to the prodigal and shares his heart about coming back home and how God delivered him.
